For the past 12 years, The Tennessean has annually honored men and women in Middle Tennessee who exemplify the very best of the nursing profession. Whether it’s braving conditions to fly patients in desperate need of care, helping HIV-positive patients deliver healthy babies or taking the time to listen to a war veteran, the nurses we’ve saluted come from all walks of life. And each one is committed to making the world around them just a little bit better.
As we approach our 13th Annual Salute to Nurses Awards, we need your help. If there’s a nurse who’s touched your life, please take the time to fill out a nomination form and honor that man or woman for a job well done. From experience, I can tell you that it will mean the world to them. And, I think, it will bring you joy and meaning in return.
I’ve had the privilege to be involved in this program since its inception at The Tennessean. I never cease to be touched and amazed by the stories of these nurses, the work they do and the people whose lives they touch. It’s been a pleasure every year to speak with the winners and their nominators, to hear their stories and, in turn, to tell those stories to the public.
Whether a nurse cared for you, a friend or a family member, if you were impressed with their level of caring and compassion, please nominate that special nurse and honor them for their dedication. From the nominees, five award winners will be chosen along with 30 finalists; they will all be recognized during a reception at City Winery on Tuesday, June 2, and announced in The Tennessean on Sunday, June 7. You’ll find the nomination form at tennessean.com/nurses. Deadline for nominations is Sunday, April 26. Thanks in advance for helping us to recognize these outstanding members of our community.
