Valentine’s Day. Just saying it out loud can make a singleton cringe on cue. Whether you find yourself newly single or a lifer to the cause, Valentine’s Day can be a downer. Better known as Singles Awareness Day (S.A.D.), it can definitely be a SAD time of year. But this year, don’t be SAD for too long because there are some great parties and activities in Nashville to get you out on the town! Here are my top 10 activities for the singletons of Nashville on Valentine’s Day 2014:

1. I’m with Cupid

Don’t spend the weekend sitting on your butt, shoving chocolates into your mouth. Get up and run!  Spend your Saturday in your underwear or come and watch half-naked people run in their underwear. Either way, someone is in their underwear! This year’s Cupid Undie Run starts at Tin Roof on February 15, and benefits the Children’s Tumor Foundation. You must be 21+ to participate.

2. Chocolate!!!

Call all the girls and get out of the house. The Salud! Cooking School at Green Hills can be found in the local Whole Foods Market and is offering a Girls Night Out: Chocolate Desserts cooking class on February 15. Enjoy four chocolate desserts served with a light dinner and get your decadence on! From ganache to truffles this class should be heavenly!

3. Wine is the way to go

Join Nashville Wine Tours as they tour the best local wineries and vineyards in Middle Tennessee. This Girls Day Out Valentine’s Wine, Spirits, and Chocolate Tour is sure to immerse any singleton into the joys of wine tasting and drinking. Must be 21 to register.

4. Singled Out

Take on the single life and celebrate with the Dan McGuinness Valentine’s Night “Singled Out” Party. Featuring DJ Aydamn, singles will be sure to dance the night away. Admission is free. Being part of a couples is overrated anyways.

5. Plenty of Fish in the Sea

Going to the bar not your thing? This year, Puckett’s Boat House will be hosting a “Plenty of Fish in the Sea” singles event. This Valentine’s Day event begins at 7:00pm and each ticket includes two drinks and hors d’oeuvres. There will also be live entertainment featuring Raven Cliff.

6. Ladies Night Out

Sometimes a girl just wants to eat and that is exactly what the Melting Pot allows. Featuring the Ladies Night Out special, girls can enjoy a night out with their best girlfriends while eating great food. From cheese to chocolate this will be a night of indulgence!

7. Love Potion #9

Get ready for a hot night out! Coyote Ugly presents their Love Potion #9 Party on February 14, and promises great fun with kissing booth and Sexy Security Auction. For those who are looking to find love, be sure to check out the Kiss & Tell speed dating! Best part of the night….ladies get in free!!!

8. Spa Day!!!

Sit back and relax with a day of pampering. Gaylord Opryland’s Relache Spa is offering the Champagne and Strawberry Experience through February 28, and has the choice of facials, massages or pedicures. Take a day for yourself, let it all drift away and just relax.

9. Bitter Ball

Have you recently turned bitter due to a break-up or fight? Take your bitterness to a new level and attend the 2nd Annual Bitter Ball at The Tin Roof & Green Room. On February 14, enjoy a night of music, featuring two late night DJs, free photobooth and Bitter Ball drink specials. This year will be bigger, badder and more bitter! Starts at 9 p.m.

10.  Anti-Valentine’s Day Party

Just say no to Valentine’s Day! That is the anthem celebrated at this annual Anti-Valentine’s Day Party for Adults 40+. Held at the Bunganut Pig Pub on February 13, this party is sure to be great and even features special Anti-Valentine’s Day drinks. The rules are simple: No dates, no pity, no romantic stuff and you MUST tell a stranger they are great! (editor’s note: this event happened yesterday, but keep it in mind for 2015).
